Glendale Mazda shoppers who have been looking for the perfect compact crossover should add the 2022 Mazda CX-5 to the top of their list. The CX-5 is a standout among competing models, providing buyers with a long list of up-to-date technology features and a sophisticated interior you’d expect to find in a luxury SUV costing a lot more. On the outside, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 features beautiful styling that makes rival models seem drab by comparison. Get behind the wheel, and you’ll enjoy handling you never thought you’d experience behind the wheel of a crossover.
According to the Mazda dealer near Glendale, among the changes for 2022 is the addition of standard all-wheel drive on every trim level. On the outside, the grille gets updated, and there are new headlights. An upgraded suspension provides even better handling than last year’s model. Mazda’s Mi-Drive has selectable drive modes that let drivers modify the ride to match different road conditions. The seats are now even more supportive. Finally, the top-of-the-line Turbo Signature trim gets body-color cladding.
The automotive media gives the 2022 Mazda CX-5 outstanding reviews. Kelley Blue Book writes:
“The way the 2022 Mazda CX-5 compact SUV/crossover looks and the way it drives are two major attractions. While recognizing that everyone has their own aesthetic tastes and driving preferences, there are some things where a general consensus gathers around them. The CX-5 is a prime example. ... The CX-5 carries out the usual compact crossover duties as well as almost any rival, with the extra dimensions of actual driving enjoyment and a premium air.”
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 can seat five passengers and comes in five trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Turbo and Turbo Signature. Powering the Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trims is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 187 horses and 186 lb-ft of torque. The Turbo and Turbo Signature are equipped with a 2.5-liter engine that’s good for 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft. Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. The fuel-efficient CX-5 gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 24 mpg city/30 mpg highway with the base 2.5-liter engine.* With the turbo-four, the CX-5 returns 22 mpg city/27 mpg highway.
Standard features for the base Sport model include 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, automatic on/off LED headlights, cloth upholstery, keyless entry/ignition, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The infotainment system features voice controls. It comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, two USB ports and Bluetooth.
Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams.
Mazda engineers its cars and SUVs to be safe. While the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety hasn’t performed crash testing for the 2022 Mazda CX-5 as of this writing, the 2021 model was named a Top Safety Pick+, the organization’s highest rating. We’re confident the 2022 CX-5 will get the same score.
