New standard features for 2018 include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert a leather-wrapped steering wheel and cylinder-deactivation technology. The latter gives fuel efficiency a slight boost by shutting down the engine’s outside cylinders when the vehicle reaches highway speeds.

The New York Daily News gave the Mazda CX-5 thumbs up, writing: "Depending on who you are, what you value, and your requirements in this kind of vehicle, the CX-5 definitely puts a smile on your face and brightens your day. Plus, it has the design, the materials, and the attention to detail that lends credibility to Mazda's premium positioning, and at a price in line with mainstream competitors."

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover that can seat up to five passengers. There are three trim levels on offer, listed as Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. All models are motivated by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder block that’s good for 187 horses and 185 lb.-ft. of torque. The standard transmission is a six-speed automatic with manual-shift and Sport modes. Front-wheel drive comes standard, and AWD is available.

Scotsdale Mazda Drivers Require Safety - The 2018 Mazda CX-5 Delivers

Safety has long been a top priority for Mazda, and the CX-5 was engineered to keep you and your family safe. The 2018 CX-5 received the top score of Good in all IIHS crash tests and was named a Top Safety Pick. Further keeping the driver and passengers safe is the standard Smart Brake Support system, which can activate the vehicle’s brakes if it detects problems at low speeds. This prevents a rear-end collision.

Traffic Sign Recognition is among the available features. This system projects important data such as the current speed limit onto the lower portion of the windshield, keeping the driver’s eyes on the road. Other optional safety gear includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and lane keep assist.
